Been using Blender & Cycles for a while and thinking about commercial work. If I need a huge render for a 6m billboard, do I crank up the resolution or is there a smarter way to scale it up without frying my PC?

You don't need super high-res images for billboards. Usually, around 5 DPI works since people see them from about 25 to 50 feet away. A 4K render usualy does the job. If you look really closely you might see some pixels but from a regular distance it looks good. And don't just take your clients' word for it when they say you need 300-600 DPI,always check with the printer to get the right specs

Wow, thanks for that explanation. It really saves my bacon. I was picturing my computer going up in smoke trying to output a file for something so huge. 😅 So, when a printer gives you a DPI spec, how do you translate that into the final pixel width and height for the render settings?
