At my office in Austin, a few of us handle Architectural Visualization using different programs depending on the client and project. One of my co-workers works in Rhino with Enscape and it's impressive how quickly he can turn around polished visuals for presentations. I recently started learning 3ds Max because a lot of the studios I'm interested in seem to favor it for modeling and more detailed render setups.

When I went looking for Enscape support, I was surprised to find out it's not even an option for Max. From what I've read, VRAY is kind of the go-to for rendering in Max but I really like the faster real time style of Enscape and the way it helps you experiment with lighting and materials on the fly. Does anyone here know if there's a technical reason why Enscape hasn't made a Max plugin or is it more about market share and competition? And for those of you who use Max every day, what's your go-to for real time rendering?

There are a few reasons why Enscape has no support for 3ds Max and I think the biggest one being the complexity. The rendering pipeline of 3ds is extremely complex, so I think it would be a real struggle to create something that would integrate seamlessly. With Enscape out of the door for this, I think V-Ray or Corona would be a good options.

I hadn't considered the complexity of the rendering pipeline in 3ds Max for integration. I know that V-Ray and Corona are the industry standards for final, high quality images and the results speak for themselves. My question was aimed more at finding something for the rapid, interactive design phase, which is where Enscape excels compared to other modeling software. Do you know if the newer versions of V-Ray have a real time feature that offers a similar on-the-fly experience or do most professionals export from Max to something like Unreal Engine for that specific task? It's looking like a different workflow is required for Max users compared to the all-in-one feel of Rhino and Enscape.
