Hey everyone! I'm hoping you can help my husband out. he's been going through a tough time with his job search, and I'm really trying to help him figure things out.
So, he used to be an architect and interior designer back in Germany, which is where he's from.
A couple of years ago, he switched gears and really dove into 3D visualization, which he loves.
Fast forward to about half a year ago, he actually left Germany and moved here to Michigan because we wanted to get married! It's been great being together.
He had a remote job back in Germany, but unfortunately, that work just dried up. So, here we are, and he's actively looking for a remote 3D visualization job. He's got a bunch of questions about the industry over here. I want to help him and would really appreciate any advice you guys can offer. Here's what we're wondering:
What's the best way to actually find a remote, permanent, or even just freelance 3D visualizer job here in the US? Do you know of any really useful resources or job boards specific to that?
What kind of money can he actually expect to make? Like, what's a typical hourly rate over here in the USA, or even what's common in Europe if people have that info?
Is it okay to just send his portfolio directly to interior design companies or other visualization studios that might hire remote talent? Is that a normal thing to do?
how does his visa status impact his ability to freelance or work remotely in the US? We're still navigating all that immigration stuff
We've heard about Upwork and Fiverr for freelancers, but maybe you can suggest some other platforms for 3D visualizers?
He tried Upwork, and honestly, it's been so hard to get that first job because you need reviews to get projects, but you need projects to get reviews! It feels impossible to start earning quickly.
And Fiverr seems even less promising from his experience so far. Maybe he's wrong, but that's just how it's seemed.
Any help or thoughts you all have would be amazing. Thanks so much
