3D visualization jobs in the US

Hey everyone! I'm hoping you can help my husband out. he's been going through a tough time with his job search, and I'm really trying to help him figure things out.

So, he used to be an architect and interior designer back in Germany, which is where he's from.

A couple of years ago, he switched gears and really dove into 3D visualization, which he loves.

Fast forward to about half a year ago, he actually left Germany and moved here to Michigan because we wanted to get married! It's been great being together.

He had a remote job back in Germany, but unfortunately, that work just dried up. So, here we are, and he's actively looking for a remote 3D visualization job. He's got a bunch of questions about the industry over here. I want to help him and would really appreciate any advice you guys can offer. Here's what we're wondering:

What's the best way to actually find a remote, permanent, or even just freelance 3D visualizer job here in the US? Do you know of any really useful resources or job boards specific to that?

What kind of money can he actually expect to make? Like, what's a typical hourly rate over here in the USA, or even what's common in Europe if people have that info?

Is it okay to just send his portfolio directly to interior design companies or other visualization studios that might hire remote talent? Is that a normal thing to do?

how does his visa status impact his ability to freelance or work remotely in the US? We're still navigating all that immigration stuff

We've heard about Upwork and Fiverr for freelancers, but maybe you can suggest some other platforms for 3D visualizers?

He tried Upwork, and honestly, it's been so hard to get that first job because you need reviews to get projects, but you need projects to get reviews! It feels impossible to start earning quickly.

And Fiverr seems even less promising from his experience so far. Maybe he's wrong, but that's just how it's seemed.

Any help or thoughts you all have would be amazing. Thanks so much

Cool that you're helping him out, he's got valuable skills, and 3D visualization is definitely in demand especially with everything going on right now, internet, digital marketing and everythng. Reaching out directly to firms with his portfolio is totally normal and a good move. For finding work, platforms like Behance, Archinect, CGTrader and even LinkedIn might give better results than Fiverr or Upwork, which are tough to get started on without reviews. Pay in the US usually ranges from $25-$75 an hour, depending on the job and experience. The tricky part is the visa, if he's not cleared to work in the US yet, even remote freelance jobs can be a legal issue. He might be able to work with overseas clients in the meantime, but definitelycheck that with an immigration lawyer.

He might want to check out LinkedIn, ArtStation, and Behance for job opportunities and to gain some visibility. It's pretty common to do cold outreach, so don't hesitate to reach out to potential clients. In the US, freelance rates usually range from $30 to $75 an hour. Just remember, you'll need proper work authorization to freelance legally. Upwork can take a bit of time to get going, so you might also consider looking at Freelancer and CGTrader

I got my first US gig by reaching out directly to midsize studios—most answered after a few follow-ups. A simple but solid portfolio helped way more than a flashy website.

I picked up a couple of freelance gigs through referrals after helping out on industrial renderings last year. Clients were looking into future-ready tools and shared stuff like https://acupowererp.com/posts/indus...025-market-outlook-and-how-acumatica-erp-fits to explain their business direction. It helped me get the vibe of their expectations and made my proposals more relevant. Worth checking if you deal with equipment or manufacturing-related visuals.

This is helpful for me since I have been helping my cousin build his 3D portfolio too, mostly architectural renders. Curious, have you or he had better luck with firms replying through LinkedIn or Behance?
